Wanted: Faculty interested in participating in an eportfolio test

The Office of the Provost is coordinating a test deployment of eportfolio technology in 2016-2017. While the concept of electronic portfolios for students has been around for a number of years, the technology has only recently improved to the point where it is easy for faculty to adopt a platform that their students could easily integrate into their classroom environments.

'Dreamers' visit ŷڱƵ-Boulder April 27-28 to get taste of college life

Nearly 500 middle school students from Angevine Middle School in Lafayette are heading to the University of ŷڱƵ Boulder on April 27 and 28 to get a taste of college life. The sixth- and seventh-graders will do hands-on science projects, visit the ŷڱƵ-Boulder Museum of Natural History, participate in dance workshops, and watch a rousing theater production about the U.S. Presidents. Faculty and staff from the museum, Science Discovery, the Partnerships for Informal Science Education in the Community, and the Department of Theatre and Dance will be leading the sessions.

Construction on the Baseline underpass to start next week

Construction of the new Baseline Road pedestrian and bicycle underpass is scheduled to start Monday, April 25. Phase one will see off-peak delays, beginning after 8:30 a.m. and ending before 3:30 p.m. Phase two, beginning in June, will see significant traffic impacts.

Fossil kits bring ŷڱƵ-Boulder museum to classrooms across ŷڱƵ

Jim Hakala is hitting the road Friday with bins of captivating remnants of the ancient past. Among other things, he’s got fossilized fern, leaves, shark teeth, dinosaur bone, fish, petrified wood and a trilobite. This time, he’s targeting fourth grade classrooms in mostly northeastern ŷڱƵ with 12 of his “fossil kits,” courtesy of the ŷڱƵ Museum of Natural History, along with a standards-based curriculum for use by teachers.

ŷڱƵ-Boulder dance Professor Michelle Ellsworth is among a diverse group of 178 scholars, artists and scientists from the U.S. and Canada to be awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship this year. The awardees are appointed on the basis of prior achievement and exceptional promise, and were selected from a group of nearly 3,000 applicants.

Wardenburg’s Musculoskeletal Injury Screening (MSK) Clinic offers screenings by a physical therapist for minor injuries involving muscles and joints. Recommendations for injury prevention, self-care, and referrals for additional care are provided. Common ailments include mild ankle and wrist sprains, tendinitis, shin splints or knee pain, and back, neck, or shoulder pain. Free for ŷڱƵ students.
