During Maithreyi Gopalakrishnan’s periodic trips to visit family in India she was bothered by the pollutants spewing from the ever-present gasoline-powered rickshaws. She was also disturbed by how hard it was for rickshaw drivers to make ends meet due to the expense of the fuel. The Superior, ŷڱƵ, found a solution and created Surya Conversions.

Andrew “Oak” Nelson was chatting with an artist friend when she asked him whether studying engineering physics didn’t “ruin his appreciation for the wonders of the world.” For Nelson, the opposite is true. “You see more wonder in the world after studying physics than before,” said this year’s Outstanding Graduate in the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

On-campus Open Enrollment benefits sessions May 5

Open Enrollment Sessions and Fairs will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 5 in the UMC's Glenn Miller Ballroom. Open Enrollment ends at 5 p.m. May 13. Sessions for faculty and staff will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. with a retiree session running from 11 a.m. to noon. An Open Enrollment Fair, featuring plan providers, will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Chancellor's Corner: University of ŷڱƵ Student Government election review

The University of ŷڱƵ Student Government has issued an opinion that affects the results of the recently conducted student government election. As chancellor, I recognize and fully support the right of the students to elect their own leadership and to administer the processes for those elections. Due to the recent confusion and challenges to the election that have been raised, I will review the processes employed and the decisions made to this point to ensure that they were administered appropriately. I will conduct my review expeditiously in conjunction with the vice chancellor for student affairs and the university’s legal counsel and without any preference to any of the candidates.
