Lifeguard
The primary responsibility of our lifeguards is the safety of any person using the swimming pools and diving well. A candidate should be proactive, engaging, and resourceful as well as provide excellent customer service to help promote safe aquatic facility usage while maintaining a courteous and professional atmosphere.
- Oversee swimming activities at the aquatics facility, ensuring adherence to policies, guidelines, and safety protocols.
- Alert swimmers to unsafe behavior or hazards; enforce pool regulations and uphold water safety standards.
- Administer first aid in case of injury, rescue distressed swimmers, and perform CPR or artificial respiration as needed.
- Assess safety conditions and implement aquatic emergency plans as necessary.
- Conduct regular inspections of pool facilities, equipment, and water quality to maintain safety standards.
- Supervise and aid in pool and facility maintenance to include cleaning, water testing, and record-keeping.
- Manage scheduling conflicts to prioritize safety in the allocation of aquatic facilities during competing programs or events.
- Current enrollment as a student at Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Boulder.
- Strong swimming skills and comfort in various water conditions.
- Able to submerge underwater to a depth of at least 14 feet.
- Able to assess individuals' abilities to determine potential safety risks during aquatic activities.
- Knowledge of emergency medical techniques to render immediate aid.
- Proficiency in evaluating water conditions to identify potential dangers.
- Experience modifying programs as needed to prioritize visitor and staff safety.
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
- If certified under Ellis & Associates Lifeguard or Starguard Elite Lifeguard, cross-training to the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate will be provided upon employment.
- Applicants with an American Red Cross Shallow Water Lifeguarding Certificate will not be considered.
The Student Recreation Center operates seven days a week, with opportunities for weekend shifts and early morning shifts. Shifts are typically scheduled in increments of 2 to 4 hours, and the minimum availability required per week is 5 hours. Additionally, lifeguard in-services are mandatory paid shifts, scheduled a minimum of twice per month on alternating Sundays.
Pay rate for this role is $17.25 per hour. Training and promotional opportunities are possible for the position.
Ice Rink Technician
The primary responsibility of our ice rink technicians is the safety of any person using the ice arena. A candidate should be proactive, engaging, and resourceful as well as provide excellent customer service to help promote safe ice rink facility usage while maintaining a courteous and professional atmosphere.
- Maintain ice rink surfaces and surrounding facilities, such as player benches, locker rooms, warming area, Zamboni garages, and rental equipment (skates, hockey pads, helmets, gloves).
- Ensure the cleanliness and functionality of glass, boards, hockey nets, and other equipment.
- Keep events on schedule according to the ice events schedule.
- Perform opening and/or closing duties as required.
- Proficiently operate and maintain ice resurfacing equipment.
- Multitask and interact with the public in a friendly and professional manner.
- Communicate effectively to establish and maintain relationships with fellow students and guests.
- Supervise on-ice activities to ensure compliance with policies, guidelines, and safety procedures.
- Alert skaters of improper behavior or hazards and enforcing rink regulations and policies.
- Provide first aid assistance to injured individuals, to include administering CPR and/or first aid when necessary.
- Evaluate conditions for safety and implement emergency action plans when required.
- Conduct regular inspections of ice sheets, facilities, equipment, and Zamboni to ensure their safety and usability.
- Current enrollment as a student at Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Boulder
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have a valid and current driver’s license
- Completion of concussion training.
- Possession of CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, or the capability to obtain them upon employment.
- Proficiency in the techniques and operation of ice rinks, including familiarity with equipment such as Zamboni machines and skate sharpeners.
The role involves both opening and/or closing duties. Shifts may vary from morning to evening hours, including weekends and holidays. However, the schedule offers flexibility.
Pay Rate The pay rate for this role is $16.85 per hour. Training and promotional opportunities are accessible within the position.
