Transfer your benefit
The very first step in allowing your dependent to use your benefits is toÌýtransfer them. Information on the transferability of benefitsÌýis available on theÌý.Ìý
After you have transferred your benefit, your dependent must apply for it. This can be done through the .ÌýThis process puts the benefit in their name and effectively makes it their benefit. The VA will send your dependent a Certificate of Eligibility via the US Postal ServiceÌýto the address they put on their application on vets.gov. ItÌýcan take several months for the VA to process their application so encourage themÌýto apply early!
Have your dependent create their ownÌýÌýaccount. This will allow them to track their educational benefits, including how many months of eligibility they have remaining.
Residency
If you are currently living out of state, review the options for in-state tuition. Visit the Tuition Classification Office'sÌýwebsiteÌýto review the in-state tuition exceptions. BeÌýsure to contact the Tuition Classification Office if you believe you qualify for in-state tuition because of time spent in Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ.Ìý
A dependent of a veteran may qualify for in-state tuition through our office through theÌýJohnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020 (Section 1005) if the dependent will be utilizing the Post 9/11 GI Bill® and living in Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ for classes.ÌýTo verify eligibility for theÌýJohnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020, students must submit a Post 9/11 GI Bill® Certificate of Eligibility and proof of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ residency (CO Lease, CO Driver's License, or CO Vehicle Registration) to the Veteran and Military Affairs Office atÌýveterans@colorado.edu. In addition, the student must submit aÌýRequest for Enrollment Certification Form.ÌýContact our office if you have further questions about this law or if you think your student qualifies.Ìý

We cannot give you specific information about your student's account with Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ, or any questions specifically addressing their benefits and how they are being used at Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ, unless your student hasÌýa with the university.ÌýAny questions about this formÌýcan be directed to the Office of the Registrar,Ìýlocated in the Regent Administrative Center, Room 101.Ìý
