MEDIA ADVISORY The University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder Student Union will host an open forum on student fees Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 4 p.m. in the Alferd Packer Grill in the University Memorial Center. The goal of the forum is to provide information and discussion of student fee issues in light of an impending U.S. Supreme Court case that could change the current mandatory fee system.

Steven Medina Assumes Counseling Post At Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder

As a first-generation student of Mexican descent from a single-parent family, Steven Medina could have been identified as an at-risk student and one who shouldnÂ’t have succeeded at the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder. But because of his desire to make a difference in the lives of others, Medina now holds two degrees and a new position as counselor in Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-BoulderÂ’s Counseling and Psychological Services: A Multicultural Center.

Professor Katy Garmany To Present "Ancestral Skies" At Fiske Planetarium

The night sky and constellations above Boulder, along with the history of the constellations and the zodiac, will be explored during the second in a series of live astronomy shows at the Fiske Planetarium this winter and spring. Katy Garmany, a University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder astronomy professor and director of Fiske Planetarium and Sommers-Bausch Observatory, will present "Ancestral Skies" at Fiske Planetarium on Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m.

Tupa To Get First Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Custom License Plates

Editors: State Rep. Ron Tupa (Dist. 14) will receive the first Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ license plates to be issued under the new program on Monday, Jan. 24, at 8 a.m. at the Boulder County Courthouse. Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ residents can now purchase new University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ custom license plates through their county clerkÂ’s office. The state legislature approved the specialty plates in spring 1998 and they are becoming available in January.

Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder Law School To Host Telecommunications Law Conference

A commissioner of the FCC, the Assistant U.S. Attorney General, the head of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ’s Public Utilities Commission and local information technology executives will examine telecommunications law at a Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder School of Law conference Feb. 6-7. Executives of US West, Level (3) and AT&T will join government officials for the conference, which will explore whether the nationÂ’s telecommunications laws are fit for the 21st century and, if not, what needs to be done to meet the challenge.

Postmaster General Will Speak To Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder Students Jan. 18

Senior Citizens Can Audit Spring Classes At Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder

Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ residents age 55 and older are eligible to audit regular daytime classes at the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder for a nominal fee through the Senior Auditors Program. Spring semester registration will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 24, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the Koenig Alumni Center located on the southeast corner of University Avenue and Broadway.

Carl Wieman And Eric Cornell Receive Benjamin Franklin Medal In Physics

Carl Wieman of the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder and Eric Cornell of the National Institute of Standards and Technology have been awarded the 2000 Benjamin Franklin Medal in Physics from the Franklin Institute. The prestigious award also was presented to Wolfgang Ketterle of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
