I’m sharing the unfortunate news that this weekend we were notified of the death of a valued member of our ŷڱƵ-Boulder community, psychology graduate student Sean Hudson. We are shocked and heartbroken by this tragic incident and our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.

From the Police Chief: Why we are removing the campus ‘blue light’ phones

In the coming weeks, the campus will be removing the remaining emergency “blue light” phones. Over the past year, they have been systematically removed and the final phase is under way. We have not received a legitimate emergency call from these phones in several years.

Earlier this morning, a ŷڱƵ undergraduate student was arrested as a suspect in the stabbing death of a fellow student following an earlier altercation off campus. Boulder Police are investigating the crime and I urge anyone with any information to assist them. On behalf of the entire ŷڱƵ-Boulder community, I want to express my condolences to the family and friends of the victim of this senseless act of violence. I also call on our entire campus community to reject violence – unilaterally – as a way of resolving disputes.

From the Provost and SVC: Elevate upgrades are launching

As you likely realize, last Thursday, Dec. 3 was the launch date for the upgrade to the campus PeopleSoft Human Capital Management System (HCM). This will be followed on Thursday, Dec. 10 by the launch of the upgraded PeopleSoft Financials (FIN). These two dates also mark the completion of nearly two years of effort on the part of the ŷڱƵ System and a wide range of individuals on the Boulder campus.

Two ŷڱƵ-Boulder faculty named AAAS fellows for 2015

Two University of ŷڱƵ Boulder faculty members have been elected fellows of the prestigious American Association for the Advancement of Science for 2015. The AAAS fellows are Professor and Chair Cora Randall of the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (ATOC) and the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP), and LASP Senior Research Associate Michael King. They were among 347 AAAS fellows elected by their peers for efforts to advance science and its applications.
