Revitalizing Indigenous Peoples’ Languages: A Matter of Human Rights

The 54th Algonquian Conference: Launching the International Decade of Indigenous Languages, hosted by the Center for Native American and Indigenous Studies (CNAIS) and the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Law School with support from an Innovative Seed Grant from the Research and Innovation Office (RIO) and the Department of Linguistics, will be held Thursday, October 20 through Sunday, October 23 at the law school. Speakers from the United Nations, U.S., and Canada will address both the causes of language loss and opportunities for revitalization.

Korey Wise, a member of the Exonerated Five, spoke at Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Law on September 23, 2022, his first visit to Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Law in six years. At the event sponsored by the Korey Wise Innocence Project (KWIP), the classroom was packed with students, KWIP staff, and members of the community who all came to hear Mr. Wise tell his story and answer questions.

The Byron R. White Center for the Study of American Constitutional Law celebrated its eleventh annual Constitution Day Project this September. Each year, volunteers teach challenging constitutional questions in Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ high schools to commemorate the 1787 signing of the U.S. Constitution.

On Tuesday, August 16, Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Law’s newest students got together in person for the very first time. The Class of 2025, made up of 12 LLMs, 11 MSLs, and 165 JD students, had the opportunity to eat, drink, and be merry at the Rayback Collective in beautiful Boulder. The next day, Orientation 2022 began in earnest.

Stanton previously served as an adjunct professor at the law school, interim director of the American Indian Law Clinic, and director of operations at First Peoples Worldwide, an organization housed in the Center for Native American and Indigenous Studies at the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ.
