Graduate Mentoring Recognition Badge

The Graduate Mentoring Recognition Badge is for graduate students who have demonstrated exemplary skills in mentoring, impactful service, and community building within the graduate school. It certifies their active participation, clear and supportive communication with mentee(s), commitment to attending events and trainings, and their role as a valuable resource and ambassador for the graduate school community.

Requirements

Students receiving a Graduate Mentoring Recognition Badge will be required to do the following:

  • Participate in an official campus mentorship program or a community mentorship program. Provide documentation that you have met or communicated with your mentee a minimum of six times per academic year.
  • Participate in at least two mentorship trainings or workshops.
    • Examples of mentorship trainings or workshops include: Grad Peer Mentoring Program Mentor Orientation, CIMER Trainings for Grad Students, etc.
    • Search 鈥淕radMentorTrng鈥 tag on the events page to find workshops that fulfill this requirement. Reach out to Hailey.Herman@colorado.edu if there are other workshops you feel meet this requirement.
  • Write a 1-2 page reflection paper on the benefits of serving as a mentor. Include how your actions have helped make a positive impact and build community.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop Effective Mentorship Skills: Graduate students will learn and apply effective mentorship techniques, enhancing their ability to guide and support mentees through academic and professional challenges.
  • Enhance Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Participants will demonstrate clear and supportive communication, fostering strong mentor-mentee relationships that contribute to the personal and professional growth of both parties.
  • Promote Inclusivity and Community Building: Graduate students will engage in activities that build a supportive and inclusive community within the graduate school, ensuring a welcoming environment for all students.
  • Commit to Lifelong Learning and Professional Development: Through active participation in mentorship trainings and workshops, students will commit to continuous improvement and professional development as mentors.
  • Reflect on the Impact of Mentorship: Participants will critically evaluate their mentoring experiences through reflection, identifying how their contributions have positively impacted their mentees and the broader community.

  • Mentorship and Leadership: Ability to guide, support and inspire mentees while fostering their academic, professional and personal development.
  • Communication: Proficiency in clear, empathetic and constructive communication, both in written and verbal forms, to effectively mentor and support mentees.
  • Community Engagement: Active participation in community building within the graduate school, promoting inclusivity, diversity and a supportive environment for all students.
  • Professionalism: Demonstrating responsibility, reliability and ethical behavior in all mentoring interactions and commitments.
  • Critical Reflection: Capability to reflect on mentoring experiences, assess personal growth and identify areas for improvement in future mentoring endeavors.
