Gender and Sexuality Track

Overview:

From medieval 鈥渃ourtly love鈥 to the work of such influential French feminists as Simone de Beauvoir and H茅l猫ne Cixous, issues of gender and sexuality have been at the core of French and Francophone literature and thought for centuries. French work on gender and sexuality has also been vastly influential beyond France. Why has love been such a central subject in this tradition? How does desire work? What political purposes does it serve? What voices have been marginalized by the canon? In this track, you will develop deep historical and theoretical knowledge related to gender and sexuality in and beyond the French-speaking world. Key topics in this track include women鈥檚 writing, feminist theory, psychoanalysis, queer theory, and trans* theory. Come study gender and sexuality in an interdisciplinary context!听
