Using Herbarium Data to Document Plant Niches in the High Peaks and High Plains of the Southern Rockies - Past, Present, and Future (2017-2021)
The SoRo Herbarium Consortium brings together 38 collaborating institutions (universities, botanical gardens, national parks, Native American Nations) to digitize more than 1.7 million botanical specimens from the Southern Rocky Mountains. The overarching goal of this project is to make these data available to a broad community of users (scientists, educators, government officials, land managers, the general public) via openly accessible, free data portals.
Data are constantly being updated as new records, images and georeferences become available.

Building Digital Collections and Infrastructure for the 21st Century at the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Herbarium (2014-2017)
Building on previous digitization efforts the Botany Section of the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Museum (COLO) will image, georeference and transcribe all of its remaining vascular plants form Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ.Ìý Beginning in January of 2015 COLO will image roughly 90,000 specimens and georeference another 50,000 specimens.Ìý Additionally over 20,000 lichen and bryophyte specimen labels will be transcribed into a database.
This project resulted in the creation of the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Herbarium's online database available at:

The Botany Section of the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Museum (COLO) is involved in two digitization grants funded by the National Science Foundation under the Advancing the Digitization of Biodiversity Collections inititive.

Addressing Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Lichens and Bryophytes as Sensitive Indicators of Environmental Quality (2012-2014)
Through these ADBC projects we have imaged over 100,000 vascular plant specimens and over 110,000Ìýbryophyte and lichen packet labels.Ìý Label information from the images will be read by optical charater recognition to fascilitate the creation of a publicly accessable database containing collection and location information.Ìý
Bryophte label images are uploaded to theÌý.Ìý Label images of all of COLO's North American Bryophytes are now available.Ìý Taxonomy and basic geography are included in the portal but the labels have not been transcribed.
Lichen label images are uploaded to theÌý.Ìý Label images of all of COLO's North American Lichens are now available.Ìý Taxonomy and basic geography are included in the portal but the labels have not been transcribed.
