Florian Hecker: Synopsis/Seriation
Florian Hecker: Synopsis/SeriationÌý
September 6—December 22, 2018
Synopsis/Seriation is a constellation of four computer-generated sound pieces. Their display system comprises a suspended architecture of loudspeakers, cables and acoustic panels that differentiate auditory environments, creating distinct but overlapping spatial layouts for audiences to experience.
Working with synthetic sound, the human listening mechanism and the experiential qualities of audition, Hecker’s installation produces subjective sensory situations that evade categorization and linguistic description. The pieces featured in Synopsis/Seriation sculpt an invisible architecture, with hallucinatory intensities dramatizing attention, movement and memory.
Played back simultaneously as one, overall, spatial composition, the proximity of the works produces a maze of different resolutions, gradations, scales, similarities and differences, all synchronized in the minutest details, yet highly diverse in their material register. There is no one ideal location for audiences to experience the installation.
This exhibition is presented in two durations. Each presentation features a simultaneous display of two sound pieces.
