The second of a three-part live satellite broadcast on youth violence, followed by a local panel discussion, will be offered free to the public on Oct. 19 by the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder. The videoconference will be in room 4 of the Coors Events/Conference Center from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m, followed by a panel discussion from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The panel will be moderated by sociology Professor Delbert Elliott, director of the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder center and a national authority on juvenile delinquency.

A 14-member search committee has been named to seek a replacement for Willard "Wick" Rowland, former dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder. Rowland recently resigned the dean's position and is on a leave of absence from the faculty to take an appointment as president and general manager of public television station KBDI in Denver. Stewart Hoover, professor of journalism and mass communication, is currently serving as interim dean of the school.

The Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder Law School Library will add two rare books to its collection in honor of Professors J. Dennis Hynes and Norton L. Steuben to commemorate their appointments as Nicholas Rosenbaum Professors of Law. A ceremony will be held today, Oct. 6, in the Lindsley Memorial Courtroom of the Fleming Law Building at 4 p.m., followed by a reception in the Moorhead-Rutledge Lounge.

Tim Gill, founder and chairman of Denver-based Quark Inc., has been selected to receive the 1999 Dean's Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence from Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder's College of Engineering and Applied Science. He is receiving the award at the college's scholarship banquet on the evening of Oct. 5. Gill earned his bachelor's degree in applied mathematics in 1976 and went on to head a $1 billion computer software company. Quark Inc. is a leader in the high-end electronic publishing and design industry.

Renowned poet and essayist Alison Deming will lecture on "Forty Acres and a Rattlesnake: Living in the New Wild West" at the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder on Friday, Oct. 15. The Center of the American West's 1999 Annual Distinguished Lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in room 270 of the Hale Science Building. The event is free and open to the public.

John Sayre, a longtime partner in the Denver firm Davis Graham and Stubbs, was recognized Sept. 18 for his years of accomplishment in the legal profession and in public service by the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ School of Law. Sayre received the law school's highest honor, the William Lee Knous award, named for former governor and Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ alumnus William Lee Knous. It was SayreÂ’s second major award from the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Law School. In 1994, he received the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Law Alumni Award for Distinguished Achievement in Government and Public Service.
