Lilly Endowment Inc. has awarded $743,000 to the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder School of Journalism and Mass Communication for a research project on media, religion and culture. Acting Dean Stewart Hoover and Research Associate Lynn Schofield Clark are the co-principal investigators of the project, which is one of the largest interview-based efforts to study media use in the family in the country. The grant will allow the two faculty members to continue their research.

CALENDAR ITEM Fiske Planetarium at the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder will explore the dynamics of the solar system and the way it was shaped by millions of collisions during "Cosmic Collisions and Our Solar System," Friday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the planetarium. The pre-recorded show travels back in time to the beginning of the solar system when devastating impacts of asteroids, comets and millions of chunks of floating debris constantly reworked the surfaces of the planets.

The number of University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder students who were summarily suspended following a Sept. 8 disturbance on University Hill has been revised from four to three, the Office of Judicial Affairs announced today. The revision was made because of a case of mistaken identity. A woman who was arrested in connection with the disturbance had the same first and last name as a Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder student. The Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder student was not involved in the disturbance.

The University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at BoulderÂ’s astrophysical and planetary sciences department, traditionally ranked as one of the finest in the nation, is offering an undergraduate astronomy degree for the first time beginning this fall.

Upon receiving additional information from the Boulder Police Department, the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder has summarily suspended two more students following a party last night in the University Hill area that Boulder police broke up at about 12:30 a.m. this morning. The action was taken by the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder Judicial Affairs office, said Ron Stump, vice chancellor for student affairs. Two students were summarily suspended earlier today by the university for their roles in the disturbance.

Two students at the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder are being summarily suspended today following a party in the University Hill area of Boulder hosted by Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ students last night that Boulder police broke up at about 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 8. According to Andrea Goldbum, director of Judicial Affairs at Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder, "Two students have been identified for summary suspension" for their roles in the early Friday morning disturbance. A third student may also be suspended pending further review.

A public schoolteacherÂ’s workload just may have gotten easier, thanks to a new Web site that has been launched by the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder. Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ4K12 at www.colorado.edu/cu4k12 is a comprehensive outreach and in-service program guide for Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ elementary, middle and high school teachers and students. It provides access to 174 Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder outreach programs, campus resources, professional development services and Internet resources for research.

A lecture on "Black Pioneers in the Rocky Mountain Region" will be presented by Paul Stewart, founder of the Black American West Museum of Denver on Tuesday, Sept. 12. The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in the Boulder Public Library Auditorium.

Hideo Sasaki a long-time friend and consultant to the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ died last week from cancer at the age of 80. Sasaki, a resident of Lafayette, Calif., was a member of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ’s four-member design review board for 33 years. His affiliation with the university began in July of 1960 when his firm, Sasaki Associates Inc., was retained as landscape architecture consultants.

The car show will feature all types of street and race cars -- exotic and classic, foreign and domestic. Awards will be given at the end of the show. The event also will include a silent auction, food and T-shirt sales. Proceeds will benefit the project race car of the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers, which will be on display at the show. The event is co-sponsored by the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ department of mechanical engineering and Checker Auto Parts.
