Philip Weiser to step down as dean of the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Law School

University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Boulder Provost Russell L. Moore today announced that Dean Philip J. Weiser will step down as dean and return to the faculty of the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Law School on July 1, 2016.

For the fourth year, the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder's Mini Law School, which is open to the campus community and the public, will be offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. over eight Tuesdays Sept. 8 to Nov. 3. Designed for non-lawyers wanting to grasp and navigate the basics of the legal system, the course will cover everything from constitutional law to intellectual property, environmental, estate planning, family, criminal and business law, as well as litigation.

Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck commits $500,000 to be split between two Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ law schools

Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck announced a $500,000 gift to be divided between the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Law School (Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ) and the University of Denver Sturm College of Law (DU). Each school will use its $250,000 gift to create an endowed fellowship program. This gift is the single largest gift from a law firm in the history of both universities.

The University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Law School is now accepting applications for the newly established, one-year, 28-credit Master of Studies in Law degree. This program will enable students who hold at least an undergraduate degree to obtain legal training short of a full Juris Doctor. "There are a range of opportunities for professionals interested in legal-related fields who are not practicing lawyers," said Dean Phil Weiser. "The MSL degree is a targeted program that will prepare students to obtain and excel in such positions."

The University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Law School will host two conferences, beginning with the Gathering of the Bench and Bar at the Wolf Law Building and the St. Julien Hotel in Boulder. The Bench and Bar Conference Oct. 1-3 will bring lawyers and jurists from across the nation to discuss some of the most important issues facing the legal profession today including the future of privacy law in the era of big data. On Oct. 2, the Byron R. White Center for the Study of American Constitutional Law will host the 22nd Annual Ira C. Rothgerber Jr. Conference at Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder’s Wolf Law Building.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Scalia to speak at Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder on Oct. 1

U.S. Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonin Scalia will deliver the fourth annual John Paul Stevens Lecture hosted by the Byron R. White Center and the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Law School on Wednesday, Oct. 1. The event will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Macky Auditorium on the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder campus. A limited number of seats are available to the lecture for the general public at no cost. To register for tickets visit the center’s website at byronwhitecenter.org .

Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ law alumnus pledges $1.5 million to support distinctive faculty position

Steve Hillard ('76) knew he wasn't done giving back to the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Law School. He had donated generously to the capital campaign for the Wolf Law Building, but he had bigger plans. "I had a still-unfulfilled obligation to Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Law," said Hillard. "I am humbled by the fact that I have had some success in my career, and I definitely believe in giving back."
