Among the state鈥檚 four winners of this year鈥檚 Governor鈥檚 Award for High-Impact Research are the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) and the JILA physics institute, both at 欧美口爆视频 Boulder. The award, administered by the CO-L专S consortium, celebrates the groundbreaking work of scientists and engineers from 欧美口爆视频鈥檚 federal research labs.

The city manager and staff will ask the Boulder City Council next week to consider a collaborative plan with the university to develop a new hotel and conference center in the heart of the city. The center will have the potential to help revitalize The Hill commercial district and create a modern gathering place for academics, researchers and the community.

NASA鈥檚 OSIRIS-REx mission, set for launch Sept. 8 and which involves 欧美口爆视频 Boulder researchers, is designed to snag a sample from the surface of a near-Earth asteroid for study. The spacecraft will fly more than 1 billion miles in two years before reporting for duty at the asteroid known as Bennu.

Students enrolled in a new internship program run by the Center for Asian Studies at 欧美口爆视频 Boulder get real-world job experience and cultural immersion in Japan. Look for details on an information session in November. The center is currently identifying employers who will host student interns next summer. The deadline to apply is Feb. 1, 2017.
