Three ŷڱƵ-Boulder students win coveted Goldwater scholarships

Three University of ŷڱƵ Boulder undergraduates have been awarded prestigious Goldwater Scholarships for 2014. The scholarships, which are worth up to $7,500 each, are awarded annually to sophomores and juniors across the nation on the basis of high academic merit. The 2014 winners from ŷڱƵ-Boulder are Jasmine Brewer, a junior in engineering physics, Brennan Coffey, a junior in chemical engineering and applied mathematics, and Ryan Dewey, a junior in astrophysics and physics.

ŷڱƵ-Boulder announces new College of Music dean

University of ŷڱƵ Boulder Provost Russell L. Moore today announced the appointment of a new dean for the College of Music. The new dean will be Robert Shay, director of the School of Music at the University of Missouri in Columbia. His appointment will begin Sept. 1.

ŷڱƵ-Boulder prepares for flood season, will test campus text-messaging system on April 3

The University of ŷڱƵ Boulder will test the ŷڱƵ-Boulder Alerts system on Thursday, April 3, to raise awareness of how the campus community will be notified in case of an emergency. The test will include text messages, emails, social media and website announcements. Annual testing of emergency notification systems is required by the Clery Act, a federal law.

ŷڱƵ business confidence remains positive going into second quarter, says ŷڱƵ-Boulder Leeds School

The confidence of ŷڱƵ business leaders remains positive and has increased slightly going into the second quarter of 2014, according to the most recent Leeds Business Confidence Index, or LBCI, released today by the University of ŷڱƵ Boulder’s Leeds School of Business.

Kathleen Sebelius to give keynote at ŷڱƵ’s Conference on World Affairs

Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will deliver the keynote address at the University of ŷڱƵ Boulder’s annual Conference on World Affairs to be held April 7-11. Sebelius’ address, “The Globalization of Health,” will be presented on Monday, April 7, at 11:30 a.m. in Macky Auditorium. All of the conference’s 200 panel discussions, performances and plenaries are free and open to the public.

Firmin named ŷڱƵ Art Museum director

Sandra Q. Firmin, curator of UB Art Galleries at SUNY Buffalo, has been named the director of the University of ŷڱƵ Boulder Art Museum. Firmin will begin as director on April 21, replacing interim director Stephen Martonis.
