Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ's Official "University Fool" To Tour Campus April 1

Patricia Nelson Limerick, the renowned University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder history professor who also serves as the official self-appointed "University Fool," will put on white face paint and make her annual tour of campus on April 1. Limerick will begin her tour at noon in the office of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder Chancellor Richard L. Byyny in Regent Hall room 301. The entire tour is expected to last about an hour, with Byyny accompanying Limerick for a portion of it.

Minority High School Juniors Urged To Apply For Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder Business Leadership Program

The College of Business at the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder will host the 12th Annual Business Leadership Program from June 13 to 19, designed to expose high school juniors to business and computer skills and the rigors of college life. Participants live in a Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ residence hall, meet College of Business faculty and Boulder-Denver area business leaders and learn college and financial aid application processes. The application deadline is April 16.

Professor Willie Hill To Perform For Legislators March 31

MEDIA ADVISORY University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder music professor and jazz saxophonist Willie Hill will perform as part of a jazz combo for state legislators on Wednesday, March 31, at the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ History Museum. The performance will incorporate a lecture about the history of jazz in America. The program is part of a series of "Smart Lunches" that the university presents for the legislature highlighting some of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder's most dynamic scholars.

Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder Art Galleries Presents MFA Thesis Exhibition

An exhibition featuring the work of masters of fine arts students at the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder will be on display at the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Art Galleries April 2-23, in the Sibell-Wolle Fine Arts Building on campus. Paintings, sculptures, photography and interactive installations will be shown that explore relationships and diverse cultures, as well as challenge the viewer's visual and perceptual awareness. All of the artists have exhibited their work nationally or internationally.

President's Teaching Scholars To Speak In April At Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder On Variety Of Scientific Quests

The campus talks are part of a new program featuring lectures by President's Teaching Scholars from Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder. Hosted by Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder Chancellor Richard L. Byyny and the Office of Community Relations, the Spring series is titled "Quests for Origins, Evolution and Immortality."

Accounting Professor Guenther Named Tisone Chair At Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder

Appointed to the Tisone Chair in Accounting at Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ's College of Business and Administration this spring, David Guenther brings years of professional experience as a CPA and an outstanding scholarly reputation to the college. Guenther, a CPA who holds a doctorate from the University of Washington, said he enjoys preparing accounting students for the real world. "You can tell the students what it's going to be like," he said. "It's helpful to have that background. No textbook can share that kind of information."

Distinguished Scholar To Lecture At Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder On March 31

Jin Di, the translator of James Joyce's "Ulysses" into Chinese, will lecture on "Joyce in China: Tale of Two Encounters" on Wednesday, March 31, at the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ. The talk will be given in the Hellems Arts and Sciences Building, room 267, at 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Professor Jin is a visiting fellow at the University of Washington and a fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies at the University of Virginia.

Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ's Urban-Rural Divorce Trial To Benefit Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Rural Health

The program will be held in the Arvada Center beginning at 6 p.m.

Professor Thomas Cech Named President Of Howard Hughes Medical Institute

Nobel laureate Thomas Cech of the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder has been selected to become the next president of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute by the organizationÂ’s trustees beginning in January of 2000. Cech, who has been a Howard Hughes Medical Investigator since 1988, will continue as a distinguished professor at Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder and professor at the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Health Sciences Center in Denver. Cech shared the 1989 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Sidney Altman of Yale University for their independent discoveries that RNA can act as a catalyst in cell development.

Spring 1999 Graduates Entering Strong Job Market

Graduates in the class of 1999 are entering a strong job market similar to the last two years, according to Gordon Gray, University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder Career Services director. "The number of employer interactions with students on campus is unprecedented, " said Gray. "Increases in job postings, resume referrals, interviews and attendance at career fairs reflect a strong market nationally and locally. "The Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ unemployment rate has never been lower. There are many companies hiring and needing the skills of college graduates," Gray said.
