Criminology students at ŷڱƵ-Boulder had the opportunity to find out what life is like on the other side of the bars when they toured the prison complex at Cañon City, ŷڱƵ. Three tours held during the fall semester took 59 students to the Territorial Correctional Facility, ŷڱƵ State Penitentiary, and Arrowhead Correctional Center to learn about the criminal justice system, prison facilities, and inmates.

ŷڱƵ-Boulder student life: Senior's interest in environment becomes career path

ŷڱƵ-Boulder senior Joel Jones says he’s been interested in the environment since he was a kid. He started getting serious about it in high school, where in one of his classes he learned about buildings that were designed with the environment in mind. That class helped propel his interest into a career path. “I didn’t know about environmental engineering until I came here to ŷڱƵ, and once I learned about it, I decided to make it my focus for my undergraduate career,” said Jones, who will graduate on Dec. 21 with a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental engineering.

ŷڱƵ-Boulder team develops swarm of pingpong ball-sized robots

University of ŷڱƵ Boulder Assistant Professor Nikolaus Correll likes to think in multiples. If one robot can accomplish a singular task, think how much more could be accomplished if you had hundreds of them. Correll and his computer science research team, including research associate Dustin Reishus and professional research assistant Nick Farrow, have developed a basic robotic building block, which he hopes to reproduce in large quantities to develop increasingly complex systems.

ŷڱƵ-Boulder to hold winter commencement ceremony Dec. 21

The University of ŷڱƵ Boulder will hold its winter commencement ceremony on Friday, Dec. 21, in the Coors Events Center on campus. The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. and is free and open to the public. Due to traffic delays, and ongoing construction on U.S. 36 leading into Boulder, early arrival is strongly advised. Guests should plan to be seated by 9 a.m. People entering the events center are asked not to bring large purses or bags to the ceremony.

And the way much of Congress’ work gets done is through self-manufactured crises like the “fiscal cliff,” say political science professors Scott Adler of ŷڱƵ-Boulder and John Wilkerson of UW.

New ŷڱƵ-Boulder merit scholarship program recognizes outstanding ŷڱƵ residents

The University of ŷڱƵ Boulder today announced a new merit-based scholarship program to recognize top entering ŷڱƵ freshmen for outstanding academic achievement. Under the ŷڱƵ-Boulder Esteemed Scholars Program, a select group of entering ŷڱƵ resident freshmen will receive scholarships ranging from a total of $10,000 to $20,000 over four years based on a combination of their high school grade-point average and test scores.

Brooks: MacIntyre makes winning first impression

It was a whirlwind day for Mike MacIntyre, who was approached by ŷڱƵ, presented a weekend offer and accepted before first setting foot on the Boulder campus. He arrived in ŷڱƵ at mid-afternoon Monday, met with ŷڱƵ President Bruce Benson, Chancellor Phil DiStefano and Bohn, then met with his new team for about 35 minutes prior to the press conference. He advised them to “do well on exams, don’t do a double negative – just because you’re down a little on what happened, I’m here to help you move forward.

Introduction of new head football coach

The University of ŷڱƵ Boulder will introduce Mike MacIntyre as its new head football coach at a press conference later this afternoon (Monday, December 10), at 4 p.m. at the Byron White Club Room at Folsom Field.
