As a follow up to our collaborative efforts begun last fall to improve campus anti-racism policies, resources and training for the campus community, we are sharing the below update on our progress to date, current action items and next steps for the spring semester.
In October, campus leadership met with concerned student leaders from the Black Student Alliance, Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Student Government and other allied groups in a series of meetings. As an outcome of these meetings, we have identified working groups of campus experts and students who are engaging in our ongoing work in response to the .
Thus far, our working groups have developed an initial assessment of each area of effort, including a current state analysis and recommendations for reforms and improvements in all areas.
Our next steps involve small working group meetings in each area to generate specific action steps to move us forward. Meetings are scheduled for Feb. 24, during which time each small group will review our assessments to date and establish priorities and deliverables for the spring semester. An update meeting on our progress is scheduled for March 31 with Chancellor DiStefano.
In April, we will begin a transition process with incoming student leaders to enable the continued progress of our work, and we will share an end-of-semester update at that time. If you have questions or concerns about our progress, or would like to engage, please contact Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵSG or the Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement.
Many thanks to all who are supporting our efforts to enhance campus climate together and build a more welcoming, safe and inclusive community for all.
