This weekend, check out several events oncampus and from the comfort of your home: the Winter Room Decorating Contest, tons of free activities at The Rec, HackŷڱƵ,ŷڱƵ Wizards: The Chemistry of Cooking,In The Buff acapella concert, a queer self-defense course and the deadline for applying to theJourney Leader team.

Friday, Feb. 23

Today is the deadline to enter your residence hall room into the Winter Room Decorating Contest. Winners will be chosen in three categories, and each winner will receive a $50 gift card to the ŷڱƵ Book Store! It’s easy to enter: Take a photo of your room, post it on Instagram with the hashtag #BuffRoomGoals and tag .


Saturday, Feb. 24

Rec Fest

Head to The Rec on Saturday for free activities all day long! There will be a 3vs. 3 basketball tournament, bouldering competition, 3 vs. 3hockey tournament, singles badminton tournament, fitness classes and a skate fest in the evening. Visit the Rec Fest webpage for full details and to register for any of the tournaments. Events go from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This annual 24-hour hackathon gives students the opportunity to express their creative problem-solving skills and run with creative freedom. The event is open to all students and is held at SEEC. Pre-registration is required, but the event is free. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Learn cooking hacks while playing with your food at this interactive showcase in Cristol Chem 140. ŷڱƵ Professor of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics David Nesbittwill be teaching the audience how to cook food using science. Though this program is targeted at young adults and kids, it will be fun for all ages. The program begins at 9:30 a.m.and runs for about an hour.

JoinIn The Buffat their 24thbirthday concert for live music and a good time. In the Buff is an all-mens’ acapella group known for their comical routines and original compositions. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door. Starting time is 7:30 p.m. and it will be held in Math 100.


Sunday, Feb. 25

Queer and trans people are at an increased risk of verbal and physical abuse from strangers and those they know. This course focuses on how to increase awareness of potential problems, de-escalate verbal harassment and to physically protect yourself if needed. Emphasis is placed on learning how to exit situations rather than engage in them. Join other LGBTQ people in a safe, inclusive environment at the from 3 to 7p.m. All genders are welcome, and no previous experience is needed.
