It’s been a busy summer on campus with more than 10,000 students taking classes and 1,400 middle and high school students taking part in pre-collegiate development programs. We’ve also reached out to alumni and prospective students across ŷڱƵ and internationally.

In 20 days, thousands of students will return to campus as move-in and Fall Welcome events begin Aug. 20.

I want to thank faculty and staff in advance for their help, patience and sacrifice during this busy and important week on our campus when we welcome our students. I also want to thank you for your volunteer work.

Last year 1,405 students, faculty and staff volunteered for Fall Welcome. I am confident of similar enthusiasm this year to make Fall Welcome a success. . Also, given the parking disruptions and other impacts to campus during move-in, I encourage faculty and staff to .

We redesigned move-in two years ago to enhance the student experience. Feedback on student move-in has been increasingly positive from students and families, faculty, staff and the greater Boulder community.

Survey results from last year demonstrated both student and family satisfaction around move-in and Fall Welcome. Some of the highlights are:

  • 98.9 percent of students and 98 percent of families felt welcomed by the ŷڱƵ staff and volunteers who helped unload their belongings.
  • 97.7 percent of students and 96.6 percent of families reported there were staff and volunteers available to answer questions.
  • 91.8 percent of students and 97.5 percent of families reported that traffic was managed well.

In the spirit of continuous improvement, move-in this year will be based on college, school or academic program rather than by a student's residence hall. This decision is based on feedback from students, families, faculty and campus partners. It also supports student success and coincides with our colleges and schools hosting “college days” to help orient new students to campus prior to the start of classes so they can be successful on their academic journey from the first day.

We are excited to extend a warm welcome to the incoming class through a well-orchestrated process that reduces traffic and provides an efficient move-in with ample volunteers in the best academic tradition.

Go Buffs!

Chancellor
