PiÌýDay, the annual celebration ofÌýone of the most important numbers inÌýmathematics, will take place on Tuesday, March 14. Pi Day is celebrated worldwide and highlights the significanceÌýof piÌý("Ï€"),Ìýwhich isÌýoften represented by the number 3.1459 andÌýrepresents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. Mathematicians have calculated the exact value of Ï€ well beyond oneÌýtrillion digits.
Divya Vernerey, an instructor in Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Boulder's Department of Mathematics, is available to comment on the significance of Pi Day as an event and as a means of teaching people about mathematical concepts. VernereyÌýcan be reached by email at divya.vernerey@colorado.eduÌýor by phone at 303-492-8906.
