University of ŷڱƵ Boulder Provost Russell L. Moore has named Mary J. Kraus as vice provost and associate vice chancellor for undergraduate education, effective June 1, 2016. Kraus succeeds Michael Grant, who will retire on June 30 after 42 years at ŷڱƵ-Boulder.
“Michael’s commitment to and passion for the success of our undergraduate students is unparalleled throughout his career and this is clearly evident in the programs he has developed and managed during his tenure at the university,” Moore said. “Mary has the vision, enthusiasm and knowledge to build on those successes.”
As part of this position Kraus will lead many key campus student success initiatives and be involved in the development of recruitment and student support strategies that will enable ŷڱƵ-Boulder to recruit and retain a highly competitive and diverse undergraduate student body, Moore said.
“Her vision for student success and experience in a variety of academic environments over the years makes her the perfect match for this position,” Moore said.
Kraus also will oversee campuswide academic programs, including the Special Undergraduate Enrichment Programs, the Leadership Residential Academic Program and its partner Ethnic Living and Learning Community, the Top Scholarship Advising and Campus Assessment Office, the Office of International Education, the Student Academic Success Center, the Presidents Leadership Class and three ROTC programs.
“I am deeply committed to undergraduate education and excited to work with a strong, collaborative team in the Provost's office to ensure that every student who comes to ŷڱƵ-Boulder has the support and programs to help them succeed academically,” Kraus said.
Prior to accepting the vice provost position, Kraus served as senior associate dean and associate dean for natural sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as department chair, associate chair and professor in the Department of Geological Sciences. She has been at ŷڱƵ-Boulder as a faculty member or administrator since 1983.
Kraus holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Yale University, a master's degree in geology from the University of Wyoming and a doctorate in geology from ŷڱƵ-Boulder.
