The University of ŷڱƵ Boulder will host the Buff Essentials program Sept. 26-30 with numerous events designed to provide support for students a few weeks into the fall semester as they begin adapting and integrating into the ŷڱƵ community.
The goal of Buff Essentials is to familiarize first-year students with the myriad resources and services available on the ŷڱƵ-Boulder campus that may make their transition to campus more successful, according to Amy Tabor, assistant director of academic advising in the College of Arts and Sciences. While the events are open to all students, first-year arts and sciences students are required to participate in two events.
The weeklong event is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences in collaboration with Career Services and Housing and Dining Services.
On Sept. 26 featured speaker Jeremy Bloom, a former ŷڱƵ student, NFL player and Olympic skier, will talk about how a ŷڱƵ degree can help people make a difference in their community. He will speak at 5:30 p.m. in the Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building, room 140. During his talk he will explain how he used his ŷڱƵ experience to not only realize his goals, but also the dreams of senior citizens.
Bloom is the founder of Jeremy Bloom's Wish of a Lifetime foundation, a program he began in honor of his grandmother. The foundation is a nonprofit with the goal of fulfilling unrealized dreams of senior citizens.
Other events include lectures on how to nail a 4.0 GPA, coaching on how to communicate effectively with roommates, study abroad information sessions, note-taking and time management classes and the chance to explore many different majors.
Students also can sign on to participate in the Give a Day event, which is being held Saturday, Sept. 24, and is sponsored by ŷڱƵ-Boulder's Volunteer Resource Center. The event gives students the opportunity to participate in various community service projects in and around Boulder. For more information visit /.
