The University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder initiated 90 students from the College of Arts and Sciences into the Phi Beta Kappa honorary organization in December.
Most of the students are from Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ.
Phi Beta Kappa Society initiates at the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder generally comprise the top 6 percent of graduates receiving degrees in the liberal arts each semester. The society is allowed to accept up to the top 10 percent of graduating seniors who meet all requirements.
Members must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.65 and have completed 100 credit hours of course work.
Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder's Phi Beta Kappa Society, formally known as the Alpha Chapter, was chartered in 1904 as the first Phi Beta Kappa chapter in Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ. There are only three other chapters in Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at the University of Denver, Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ State University and Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ College.
Phi Beta Kappa was founded in 1776 at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., and has 250 chapters nationwide, which annually combine to initiate 15,000 of the graduating elite.
