The University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder's Philosophy Elder Program of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ will have its first meeting on Wednesday, March 29, at 7 p.m. to explore a variety of enduring philosophical questions and problems.
Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder faculty members and graduate student teachers will meet in Boulder at The Academy, 970 Aurora Ave., with interested elders age 55 and above and their partners for a discussion on "What is Philosophy and Why Study It?" led by philosophy Assistant Professor Michael Huemer. PEP-CO Director Elizabeth Slokar also will provide information and history on the program.
Prospective discussion topics include perennial questions in philosophy including free will and determinism, moral theory and human nature; the practical applications of philosophy such as biomedical and environmental ethics; and other philosophical questions likely to interest participants including the meaning of life, philosophy of religion, personal identity over a lifetime and bioethics at the end of life. Topics for future meetings will be selected by those in attendance.
The program is sponsored by The Academy, the department of philosophy and the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder Center for Values and Social Policy. For more information call Slokar in the philosophy department at (303) 735-3760.
