Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder finance students will compete to win $7,500 in a stock trading competition sponsored by KTLK 760 AM radio called The Great Market Wise Collegiate Stock Trading Challenge.

The challenge positions students from Front Range universities against each other and will run through April 28. The team with the highest portfolio value at the end of the challenge will win funds for a university scholarship.

"This is a great opportunity for our students to practice what theyÂ’ve learned in class," said Finance Professor Russ Wermers. "ItÂ’s a low-risk situation to test their skills."

The student teams consist of 10 to 30 members from several universities including the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder, Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ State University, Metropolitan State College of Denver, Regis University, the University of Denver and the University of Northern Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ. They are expected to trade frequently, looking for short-term gains.

Trading will be conducted on an electronic stock-trading platform provided by Market Wise Securities, Inc. Teams will be allowed to invest in New York Stock Exchange or NASDAQ securities and will execute a minimum of five and a maximum of 15 round turns (a buy and a sell or a sell and a buy) each week.

Students will provide on-air updates on KTLKÂ’s Business-for-Breakfast morning show throughout the semester. At the end of the three-month competition, all positions will be closed out and the winner will be determined. The winning team will be announced at the Financial Fest on May 12, where team members will receive a check and trophy.

Following the Financial Fest, the winning team will be invited back to the radio show as on-air guests.
