The Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Geographic Alliance, based in the geography department at the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder, is giving every Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ school a packet of teaching materials in observance of Geography Awareness Week Nov. 16 through Nov. 22.

The teaching materials were produced by the Alliance and the National Geographic Society. This year’s theme for the week is “Explore the World: Geography Takes You Places.”

“The materials are suitable for other disciplines, not just geography, and they reflect the new national and state Geography Standards,” said Professor A. David Hill, Alliance co-coordinator.

The Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Geographic Alliance is an outreach program with nearly 7,000 members linking the university with public and private schools to improve precollegiate geography instruction in Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ.

The Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder geography department will celebrate Geography Awareness Week with two multimedia presentations, one on Africa by Professor Gary Gaile on Nov. 19 and the other on China by Professor Tim Oakes on Nov. 20.

The presentations will begin at 7 p.m. in the Guggenheim Geography Building, room 2. Both are free and open to the public.
