Eight people were honored with 1997 Distinguished Engineering Alumni Awards at an April 24 banquet sponsored by the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder's College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Presented for the 32nd consecutive year, the awards are given to alumni of the university's engineering college for outstanding careers and achievement in academic and professional work. In special cases, non-alums also are recognized with this award for outstanding service to the engineering college.

Three of the honorees this year are Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ residents. They include Charles M. "Chuck" Schloss, founder and first president of Schloss Engineering Equipment Inc., of Denver; Cecil J. Osborne, superintendent emeritus of the Riverside Irrigation District of Morgan County, Colo.; and Lanis "Lanny" Pinchuk, retired assistant dean of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-BoulderÂ’s engineering college.

Other recipients include Pasala Dayaratnam, vice chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Hyderabad, India; Robert J. Graebner, senior research fellow for the Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas at Austin; Professor Emerita Judith S. Liebman of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana; Eugene E. Stoeckly, a retired General Electric executive and consultant from Cincinnati; and Professor Earl E. Swartzlander Jr. of the University of Texas at Austin.
