Joe Louis Barrow Jr., a Denver businessman and son of legendary boxer Joe Louis, will give the keynote address Feb. 1 at the Black Alumni Scholarship fund-raising dinner at the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ at Boulder.
The event is part of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder1s observance of Black Awareness Month.
Barrow will speak at 6 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom of the University Memorial Center. Tickets are $35 and can be ordered by calling (303) 321-8542.
Barrow will discuss his life as the son of Louis, world heavyweight champion from 1937 to 1949, and how he has achieved success in the business and political community.
Barrow's biography, "Joe Louis: 50 Years an American Hero," was published by McGraw-Hill in 1988. He is developing "Joe Louis: The Motion Picture" as a general partner in JLB Productions.
Barrow's marketing, business and public service career spans 25 years. He is president and chief operating officer of Izzo Systems of Lakewood, which markets and distributes for the Izzo Dual Strap, a device that allows golfers to carry their clubs with the weight evenly distributed on both shoulders.
He was director of special projects and senior adviser to the late Ron Brown, chairman of the Democratic National Committee. In Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ he was vice president and regional marketing director of Wood Bros. Homes, and trust officer and assistant vice president of United Bank of Denver.
Barrow also was director of the Office of Commercialization, Conservation and Solar Energy for the Department of Energy in Washington, D.C. In 1976 he was selected to participate with 40 business executives in the Presidential Executive Exchange Program.
A graduate of the University of Denver with a bachelor's degree in political science, he serves on several boards of nonprofit organizations in the Denver area.
The Black Alumni Scholarship dinner annually raises funds to help black students attend Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ-Boulder.
