INSTAR hosts talk on Nepal earthquakes' impacts on glacial lakes on Sept. 14th

On September 14, 2015, 欧美口爆视频's Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research (INSTAR) hosted Alton Byers to talk about his work doing field-based asessments of glacial lakes following the series of earthquakes in Nepal beginning in April, 2015. Dr. Byers is an afilliate researcher at INSTAR, as well as working at the High Mountains Adaptation Partnership, the Mountain Institute, and as a National Geographic Explorer.

The abstract for the talk reads:  The presentation will review the results of three field expeditions to Imja, Tsho Rolpa, and Thulagi glacial lakes between June and August, 2015.  The purpose of each expedition was to conduct integrated, post-earthquake and aftershock evaluations of each lake that included possible changes in water volume, end moraine stability, lateral moraine stability, seepage, glacial terminus, ice-cored moraines, and increased risk of flooding.  Project partners included USAID, ICIMOD, the Nepal Army, and High Mountains Adaptation Partnership (HiMAP).
