Currently an instructor at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, South Korea

I am interested in topics in sociocultural linguistics and linguistic anthropology, with a focus on interaction. My work centers around identity, gender, sexuality, intersubjectivity, discourse analysis, and sociophonetics. In particular, I have been looking at the way language and language ideologies play into the construction of gender identity in South Korea. My M.A. thesis centered on the interactional analysis of South Korean boy bands and how they collectively negotiate different aspects of their 鈥渟hared鈥 masculine image. Other projects I am working on include the construction of Korean gay men's identity through the novel use of kinship terms and how interactional level structures can explain the distribution of honorific speech levels in Korean conversation. I am also very interested in sociality and autism.
