The Exciting World of Undergraduate Research: Methods and Results

Are you an undergraduate student interested in doing hands-on research in political science? The Department of Political Science has launched a new 鈥渓earning by doing鈥 initiative to get students more involved in political science research and learning that is connected with the issues most relevant to you.

On October 17, 2019, six undergraduate students presented the research they did in the summer of 2019 with Professor Sarah Wilson Sokhey to faculty, grad students, and undergrads alike. These students鈥擨an Hogg, Brian Iraheta, Kavya Kannan, Cameron Love,  Kevin Ordonez, and Ayomi Rajapakse鈥攑resented their findings of how authoritarian regimes invest in higher education. Each of these researchers coded roughly 1,000 articles from state-owned news sources about how the government was investing in higher education. The research was funded by the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) at 欧美口爆视频 and by funds from the 鈥淟earning by Doing鈥 initiative in the Department of Political Science.
