Dr. Chase Wesley聽Raymond聽has joined the Departments of聽Linguistics听补苍诲听聽as an Assistant Professor, where he聽will also be a core faculty member in the聽.听Dr. Raymond聽holds doctorate degrees in both Hispanic Linguistics (2014) and Sociology (2016) from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).听Prior to coming to 欧美口爆视频-Boulder, he聽was a Visiting Scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics聽in Nijmegen.听
Professor聽Raymond's research is interdisciplinary, centering聽on the use of language in everyday life. For him, the study of language provides the聽means through which the moment-by-moment 'doing' of social life is accomplished and can be systematically investigated. He聽is particularly interested in situations of contact鈥攚hen divergent languages, dialects, cultures, etc. come together in interaction鈥攚ith a primary focus on Spanish speakers in the United States. He聽brings together聽methods from Conversation Analysis, Interactional Linguistics, and Sociolinguistics聽to investigate language use in both institutional and non-institutional contexts, routinely linking interactional practices to聽larger themes, including questions of race/ethnicity, individual/group identity and culture, and聽relations with social institutions. His work has appeared in a disciplinarily聽diverse set of聽journals which range from聽Linguistics聽(e.g.,听Language,听Language in Society,听Journal of Sociolinguistics), to Communication Studies (e.g.,听Research on Language and Social Interaction, Discourse & Communication), to聽Healthcare (e.g.,听Patient Education and Counseling).听
