On Jan. 8, 2018, Professor delivered the opening keynote address at the Tarragona Center for Environmental Law Studies conference, held at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona, Catalonia Spain.

Guruswamy鈥檚 talk, 鈥淓nergy Poverty: Justice and Women,鈥 explored how five different strands of international law could intertwine. Topics addressed included sustainable development, energy poverty, women suffering due to lack of access to energy, and affordable sustainable energy technologies and justice. The talk, which was delivered via video conference, will form the basis for a chapter in Guruswamy鈥檚 forthcoming book on environmental justice/sustainable development, to be published by Cambridge University Press.聽

As the Nicholas Doman Professor of International Environmental Law & International Energy Programs at 欧美口爆视频 Law, Guruswamy teaches international environmental law, global energy justice, oil and international relations, and international law. Additionally, he directs the international energy programs at the Getches-Wilkinson Center. Guruswamy鈥檚 research examines how and why energy justice requires practical energy solutions for the energy poor in the developing world. Interdisciplinary approaches characterize his research. Guruswamy is a nationally and internationally renowned expert in international environmental and global energy law.聽
