MSc (Human Molecular Genetics), Imperial College London
BS (Molecular and Cellular Biology), University of California, Berkeley

Andrea was born and raised in Quito, Ecuador, where she was inspired by the ecological and human diversity that surrounded her to pursue the study of molecular biology and genetics. She graduated in 2015 with a BA in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. This led to a year of research in metastatic breast cancer as part of Dr. John Park鈥檚 lab at the University of California, San Francisco. She then pursued an MSc in Human Molecular Genetics at Imperial College London from 2018-2019 and carried out her master鈥檚 thesis project at The Francis Crick Institute as part of Dr. Robin Lovell-Badge鈥檚 lab. Her thesis focused on developing chicken gonadal chimeras as a tool for studying sex determination and differentiation pathways during embryogenesis. She joins the Chuong lab this year and is currently working on using RNAseq data to find candidates of novel receptor isoforms, formed from transposition events, with the potential to modulate the immune response. Outside the lab, Andrea loves to travel, experience new cultures and flavors, and scuba dive in as many places as she can.
