January is fast approaching. Here is an update on where things currently stand related to temporary hiring and the Equal Pay Act (EPA).

Human Resources (HR) has been working hard to refine processes and develop guidance while awaiting direction from the state of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ regarding temp hiring and the EPA. We thank you for your patience.  The State recently released some of the guidance and rules we have been waiting for. We anticipate having more information finalized around December 18, however here is what we currently know so you can begin planning accordingly:

  • If you have temporary positions to fill currently, even if the start date is post January 1, go ahead and make those hires.  If your internal processes are complete, you don't need to hold off on these hires, even if the start date is after January 1.
  • If you anticipate starting any new temp processes that involve a posting (regardless of posting location), those postings must be closed by Dec 31. We don’t want any active postings up after January 1 without meeting new EPA guidelines, as this could pose a significant risk.
  • For temp processes that you will initiate after January 1, here is broad overview of the anticipated process:
    • All new temporary position requests for classified and university staff temps will be initiated through the Position Management Portal. Research faculty/faculty will still utilize the Search Committee Portal.
    • A member of the Talent Acquisition team will reach out to you upon receiving your request. Depending on the specific nature of your vacancy, your Talent Acquisition Consultant will help identify the best option for filling your vacancy and will help identify how to best structure the process.
      • Positions that have an identified candidate will need to be posted, per requirements of the Equal Pay Act. The exact required posting length is still being discussed.
      • For positions where you do not have an identified candidate, your Talent Acquisition Consultant will assist you in identifying the best and most expedient option for filling your vacancy.
    • Campus HR will process temporary appointment offer letters and addendums through Avature as we do for staff appointments.
  • We will begin building pools of candidates from which to source for high-volume roles beginning in January. For these high volume roles, such as Administrative Assistants and Accounting Technicians, we anticipate having referral lists ready by mid-late January.
  • If you anticipate having a large volume of staffing needs for any particular positions, please connect with your assigned Talent Acquisition Consultant as soon as possible. It would be helpful for us to plan for any upcoming vacancies starting in January.

This will be an evolving and growing process throughout next year. HR will refine the process as we learn more and appreciate your understanding and collaboration. Over time, this will be a great resource for the campus.
