- DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL ENGINEERING
Hussain is a second year PhD student in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. He received his B.A. in Chemistry and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Boulder. His current research focuses on identifying and understanding technical, economical, and environmental challenges for the integration of Direct Air CO2 Capture (DACC) technologies with CO2 conversion ones (e.g., CO2 electrolysis, RWGS) through the use of process modeling, techno-economic assessment, and life cycle analysis tools. Hussain is currently co-advised by Dr. Bri-Mathias Hodge and Dr. Wilson Smith.
Prior to joining the group, Hussain explored electrochemistry during his B.A. by working with Dr. Adam Holewinski on CO and methanol oxidation using cyclic voltammetry.Ìý After his graduation, he joined the ChBE department as a Chemical Engineering M.S. student and was co-advised by Dr. Charles Musgrave and Dr. Wilson Smith. During his M.S. years, Hussain comprehensively investigated metal nitrogen-doped graphene electrocatalysts for the reduction of CO2 to CO using grand-canonical Density Functional Theory.
During his free time, Hussain likes to spend time with his family and friends, hike around Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ’s beautiful mountains, play soccer, play volleyball, or travel around the world.
