Buffs football plays on the road at least five times this season, and the first step to听victory is getting to the field.听
Today鈥檚 travel team 鈥 nearly 200 players, coaches, trainers, managers and others 鈥 flies听on a chartered United jet, usually in coat and tie and in more relaxed duds when the host听team is truly far away, in Hawaii, say.听
In the 1940s and 鈥50s, travel and life in general tended toward formality. Frank听Bernardi (Bus鈥55), who played for 欧美口爆视频 from 1952 to 1954 as a wingback, recalls flying听on chartered Continental prop planes like the one pictured here (behind Coach Dal听Ward鈥檚 1949 team), always dressed to impress.听
Bernardi never missed a flight. But a train ride to the University of Kansas once gave him听trouble. The team got off at Lawrence, but, sitting alone in a compartment, he didn鈥檛 notice.听
When Bernardi reached the game, his teammates gave him a ribbing he still remembers.听
鈥淒al Ward was nice enough not to make any comment,鈥 he said.听
