Dave Plati (Jour’82)
Nordic skier Vegard Kjoelhamar, the NCAA champion in the 20K freestyle, was named the 2008-09 male Collegiate Skier of the Year by FasterSkier.com. Former Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ basketball player Chauncey Billups (Soc ex’99), who plays for the Denver Nuggets, won the NBA’s sportsmanship award. Alan Culpepper (Geog, Soc’96), a former Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ athlete and two-time Olympian, along with Rich Castro (MPE’73) and long-time track coach Jerry Quillen, was inducted into the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Running Hall of Fame in May.
Larry Zimmer, who has called Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ football games on radio since 1971, received the prestigious Chris Schenkel Award. In October, Zimmer will be inducted into the Broadcast Professionals of Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Hall of Fame. Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ’s associate athletic director Dave Plati (Jour’82) was honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America for serving 25 years as sports information director at the university.
