Assistant Professor Ricarose RoqueÌýdesigns and studies equitable learning environments that enable young people to becomeÌýcomputational creators—able to use computing to create things they care about, developÌýidentities as creatorsÌýand imagine the ways they can shape the world. She draws on community-engaged, design-basedÌýand ethnographicÌýapproaches to study the role that social context plays in supportingÌýchildren’s participation in computing, especially children from non-dominant groups who haveÌýbeen marginalized from opportunities because of race, ethnicity, immigration statusÌýand/orÌýsocioeconomic status.
