Judges for prestigious CASE award impressed by design, theme that reflected on journalism’s past while embracing challenges of tomorrow

The fall 2022 edition of CMCI Now—the magazine of the College of Media, Communication and Information at ŷڱƵ Boulder—was a celebration of 100 years of journalism at the university.
As it turns out, there’s more to celebrate.
Today, CMCI Now from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, highlighting the magazine’s ability to offer both a sense of nostalgia for the Department of Journalism’s founding and contributions to the craft, while also juxtaposing it with the present.
“It was such an honor to celebrate the extraordinary work by our journalism students and faculty, now and in the past, in CMCI Now,” said Lori Bergen, founding dean of the college. “Seeing that work, and the magazine, recognized by CASE is incredibly rewarding.”
CASE is a global, not-for-profit membership association with a vision to advance education to transform lives and society. Its Circle of Excellence Awards are recognized as the premier accolades for educational advancement. The association has recognized CMCI Now in the past, including a bronze Circle of Excellence Award for its fall 2018 edition and two regional gold awards, in 2018 and 2019.
This year, nearly 600 institutions worldwide submitted more than 4,000 entries to the competition.In selecting CMCI Now for a bronze award, competition judges praised the historical cover design, which stood out as a powerful representation of the publication’s theme, and complimented the art and design overall.
CMCI joins the School of Education at ŷڱƵ Boulder in earning recognition from CASE. The association also for its 2022 Voices magazine.
