ŷ���ڱ���Ƶ

The University of ŷ���ڱ���Ƶ Board of Regents has named José-Luis Jimenez, Professor of Chemistry and Fellow of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, "Distinguished Professor". This is the University’s highest faculty honor and is awarded to a select few tenured faculty members who demonstrate exemplary performance in research or creative work; a record of excellence in promoting learning and student attainment of knowledge and skills; and outstanding service to the profession, the university and its affiliates. Professor Jimenez embodies all these qualities and more. 

Distinguished Professor Margaret Tolbert, who led the nomination effort, notes that “José is an inspiration for everyone in our field. Not only has he made major contributions to our understanding of the aerosol effects on air pollution and coronavirus transmission, but he is generous with his time and he inspires others in their own work.” 

The board of Regents, in their announcement, cited Professor Jimenez’s recent contributions to the recognition that COVID-19 transmission occurs via aerosols, writing “Throughout the pandemic, Jimenez applied his aerosol expertise to understanding COVID-19 transmission. Among the results of his collaborative work is the World Health Organization’s acknowledgment that the virus is transmitted by aerosols. His work has not only inspired future researchers, significantly impacted the field of atmospheric aerosols, and proved an impactful, service-oriented member of the ŷ���ڱ���Ƶ community, but it also saved lives.”
