Professor Christopher Bowman is the recipient of the 2017 Herman F. Mark Scholar Award from the American Chemical Society’s Polymer Chemistry Division.

Bowman, a Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Distinguished Professor and Patten Endowed Chair, joined the faculty in 1992 and served as founding director of the Materials Science and Engineering Program at Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Boulder.

The biennial awards recognize excellence in basic or applied research and leadership in polymer science and are presented during a symposium at the ACS Meeting, where each Mark Scholar is expected to present a lecture. Recipients receive a plaque and $1,500 honorarium.

In every cycle, three awards are conferred: the Herman F. Mark Young Scholar (age 35 or younger); Herman F. Mark Scholar (age 36-49) and the Herman F. Mark Senior Scholar (age 50+). The awards were established in 2006 and are sponsored by Elsevier, publisher of the journal Polymer.
