The evening before the conference, please join the Community Engagement Design and Research Center (CEDaR) for a networking reception. The reception will feature student work selected through an APA-juried competition. Everyone is welcome, but a separate registration for the reception is required, which can be done through this website at the same time as registering for the conference for the first time, or can be added later by logging into your conference registration account.

Language, literacy and financial difficulties can create barriers for immigrants and refugees, access to affordable housing and other public services. Explore strategies to facilitate immigrant participation in the planning processes and their access to affordable housing options.

Independent small businesses are the heart of neighborhoods, towns and cities. Yet, these businesses are stressed by competition from large internet-based companies, high real estate costs and other factors. This panel explores the role of small businesses in today’s changing economic landscape and strategies for strengthening independent small businesses and their contributions to communities.

Session 3:  Roundtable – Home Wanted: Tripling Affordability, Building an Accessible Community
Join community experts and advocates for a fast-paced, working design session to help build our future community. The high cost of housing in Boulder County makes finding a home increasingly difficult. Achieving success on the issue of affordable housing is only possible using multiple tools and a commitment to action by the public and private sectors, and by all those who live and work here. This panel will provide an opportunity for discussion of options for building a thriving, equitable housing sector in Boulder County.

Session 4: Workshop – Envisioning the Manufactured Housing Community of Tomorrow 
Most manufactured home communities in the US were designed in the mid-20th century. Join residents of manufactured housing communities, designers, youth and others in a conceptual design workshop.  What would the community of today and tomorrow look like?

Session 5: Workshop - Displacement and Dislocation
Connect with community leaders for a discussion of state and local policy, financing mechanisms, education efforts, and compensation programs. This panel explores causes of displacement, including in-migration and gentrification, and examines strategies to address its effects.

Session 6: Roundtable  Creative Corridors and Community Building Toolbox
Creative industry and equitable management planning are powerful tools in the effort to balance changing demographics and priorities for community building. Visit with leaders from a creative corridor linking Manitou Springs, Old Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ City, and Downtown Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ Springs where different populations and types of community are finding creative solutions.
