12/1-12/21 Westwood Exhibit at the McNichols Art Center

Westwood Exhibit at the Community Gallery, McNichols Art Center, Denver

The Community Engagement Design and Research Center (CEDaR) has been working for two years in one of Denver鈥檚 most environmentally at-risk neighborhoods, Westwood. CEDaR is collaborating with the community and a network of partners led by the Trust for Public Land, the City and County of Denver, Westwood Unidos, BuCu West, Groundwork Denver, and The Park People, in the development of the Via Verde, a necklace of green spaces around the neighborhood that will make it a safer, healthier and a more connected place to live, learn and play. The Via Verde provides multiple-benefit green infrastructure addressing issues such as urban heat, water quality, need for bike and walking paths and park access. CEDaR has supported the Via Verde effort with four research and design initiatives, including community science projects, tree planting, walkability analysis and a studio led by David Kahn and Sara Tabatabaie. More than 40 ENVD, ENVS and Design Without Boundaries (DWB) students have participated.

The Trust for Public Lands consolidated the Via Verde work in an art exhibit currently on display in the Community Gallery at the McNichols Civic Center, 144 W Colfax. This exhibit 鈥渢ells the inspirational story of Westwood鈥檚 community-empowered green transformation." Please check out the exhibit and learn about how one Denver neighborhood is taking on climate change and addressing climate justice!
