Report to the Center for Asian Studies: Professionalization Development Grant for Tibetan and Himalayan Studies
A Center for Asian Studies professionalization grant enabled me to research and read new publications in the anthropology of the Himalayas. Based on this, I have created a syllabus for a new course: Anthropology of the Himalayas. This will be a 4000-level course requiring students to do a significant amount of reading and writing each week as well as a substantive research project about the Himalayas. The course combines articles and books, starting with the foundational texts for the anthropological study of the Himalayas and concluding with the most recent scholarship about and from the region. Course authors include native scholars as well as a global roster of academics. 100% of course content is about the Himalayas鈥擝hutan, India, Nepal, and Tibet.
Next I will submit the syllabus and a formal course proposal to secure a course number. I will teach the course as soon as possible and coordinate with CAS on recruiting students and advertising the course.
