Leeds Students Launch Net Impact Undergraduate Chapter
For over 15 years, the Leeds School of Business has been home to听an听MBA graduate Net Impact chapter听recently recognized as one of the top-three chapters in the world. Undergraduate students at Leeds are equally passionate about the Net Impact mission of creating听positive social and environmental change in the workplace and the world, and through the support of CESR, have launched a new undergraduate chapter. While the undergraduate chapter will be a separate entity, there will be close collaboration between the two on programming opportunities including guest speakers and special听events.听
CESR Instructor听Don Oest is the chapter鈥檚 faculty sponsor and has facilitated the organizational steps of the chapter鈥檚 creation. He will also play a role in the operation of the organization as an advisor to event planning and selection, and as a liaison to corporate and other external partners.听
The scope of the undergrad chapter听will extend beyond Leeds听students to an academically diverse student body. 鈥淥ur plan is to begin spreading the word about the group to the CSR classes and community of Leeds, and then reach out to other schools across campus to find interested students,鈥 says founding member Alexa McNaul.听鈥淲e hope that Net Impact will be a place for students of any听major to meet other听students and professionals that are interested in socially responsible careers.鈥
Created by Students to Inspire Students
As a student-run club aimed to teach students about the opportunities and effects around听ethical business, the activities planned by the organization will be anything that provides meaningful learning in this area, tailored to the specific interests of members.听One major activity undergrads will focus on is working with to perform of local companies that wish to become B Corporations. Beyond this, there are a variety of activities the chapter听will engage in:
- Volunteer activities
- Case competitions
- Research opportunities
- Events and discussions
- Professional speakers
- Company tours
- Aiding and analyzing stability models
